SEMIKRON and Silicon Mobility collaborate on EV inverter platformSEMIKRON and Silicon Mobility collaborate on EV inverter platform

SEMIKRON, a manufacturer of power electronics, and Silicon Mobility, a provider of digital controls for electrified powertrains, has announced the availability of a 24 V to 96 V inverter platform. The 50 kW platform combines a SEMIKRON SKAI 3 LV inverter and a Silicon Mobility OLEA inverter and electric motor control solution.

SEMIKRON’s SKAI 3 LV includes an integrated MOSFET module with connected DC-link, gate-driver, protection functions and sensors. The company calls it a complete performance power solution for 3-phase motor drives.

Silicon Mobility will deliver its OLEA COMPOSER T222 Starter Kit for SKAI3 LV, the digital control and software aspects of the platform. This includes a reference control board integrating the OLEA T222 FPCU control chip and OLEA APP INVERTER, a control software application adapted for the SKAI 3 LV inverter power module, configurable to support a variety of 3-phase PMSM and WRSM motor and position sensors. The application provides torque and speed management using Field Oriented Control (FoC) and variable Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) algorithms from 2 kHz up to 100 kHz. It also includes configurable safety mechanisms for fault detection and reaction such as overcurrent, overvoltage and overtemperature. The starter kit also features vehicle-dependent software demo code, post-build measurement, configuration, calibration and firmware update GUI software.

“With Silicon Mobility, a perfect match is formed for high-quality, high-performance solutions for low-voltage vehicle applications,” said SEMIKRON CEO Karl-Heinz Gaubatz. “With this platform, we give low-voltage vehicle manufacturers access to technologies and solutions far above today’s state-of-the-art implementations, providing them the extra edge for their designs.”

“Together with SEMIKRON, we combined control technology and power electronics system to deliver a unique platform, highly adaptable and customizable, with no compromise on performance and quality,” said Silicon Mobility CEO Rainer Kallenbach. “By choosing this platform, vehicle manufacturers can accelerate the electrification of their vehicles and offer themselves the possibility of future differentiation.”
